Why Muslims don't celebrate Valentine's Day

As we all know Valentine's day is here again and we all know there are no basic rules or laws in Islam for Muslims to celebrate Valentine's day. Islam teaches Muslims to always focus only on Sharia law, good deeds, or any deed exemplified by our Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

Below are reasons Muslims should not celebrate Valentine's day.

1. It is a culture rooted in another religion

We all know that Valentine comes from Christian culture, and it evolved through time so it was accepted by many people. Islam forbid Muslims to do anything or even wear anything that is related to the culture of other religions.

2. It may lead Muslims to disbelief

Is it possible that Valentine makes Muslims disbelievers? Well indeed it is, and it’s one of the reasons why Islam forbids celebrating valentine's day. When someone is preoccupied with Valentine’s euphoria, it’s only a matter of time before they will get distracted by that.

3. Islam has put clear rules and customs, and Muslims should not be against it

Another reason why Islam forbids celebrating Valentine's day is that Allah SWT already gives Islam and Muslims their own identity. We also have our own Eid (sacred day). Why should we follow other customs when we do understand that it’s against Islamic law?

4. The Prophet always encourages Muslims not to follow the crowd

From the verse below,

“And We have revealed to you, (O Muhammad), the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation (united in religion), but (He intended) to test you in what He has given you; so race to (all that is) good. To Allah is your return all together, and He will (then) inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.”

QS. Al-Maidah : 48

And last but not the least

Love in Islam must be spread all day and all time Islam always encourages Muslims to spread love every time. Muslims should not be shackled to spread love at a certain time or day. And the form of love can vary in Islam. Muslims are encouraged to perform good deed as a form of love, which we do for the sake of Allah (SWT).
